Eat Smart, Get Moving!, a school-based personal wellness program for adults, is now in Phase 3.
This is the third of four progressive phases to help participants work toward reaching the ultimate personal wellness challenge of meeting the daily Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations for daily consumption of the Food Groups to Encourage and daily minutes of physical activity.
We congratulate everyone who has been participating in the program for the first 13 weeks! By now, you have probably noticed at least one change in your behavior that has become a new "healthy habit" for you. Phase 3 will begin just before many schools take an extended holiday break. We encourage teams and team members to discuss and decide how to communicate with one another over the holidays. Getting through the holidays and keeping up your current new behaviors may take a little extra effort but it is possible to do so while still having fun and making the most of the season.
The Phase 2 reporting deadline will be January 9. Make sure to print and review the new goals and tracking forms before your school closes for the break. Team members can now get 2 points for every serving of dairy and for every increment of physical activity! New bonus point opportunities reward team members for meeting the goals for dairy, fruits and vegetables, and/or physical activity on four out of the seven days in every week!
The resources available at www.eatsmart-getmoving.org include the official contest rules, frequently asked questions, program calendar, newsletters, links to resource websites, and more. Regular tips and newsletters will continue to be posted, focusing on nutrition and physical activity strategies to help motivate your team to work towards the target nutrition and physical activity behaviors.
Approach the "New Year" proud of your progress on your own personal wellness! Set realistic goals for yourself to continue moving forward on your journey. Take a look back and reflect on the accomplishments you have made so far.
Keep up the good work! Phase 3 is 8 weeks long (December 16, 2008 through February 2, 2009). Have a happy holiday season!
