School Nutrition Association 3-A-Day

Welcome to 2008-2009 Eat Smart, Get Moving! Program

Eat Smart, Get Moving!, a school-based personal wellness program for adults, is now in Phase 2. This is the second of four progressive phases to help participants work toward reaching the ultimate personal wellness challenge of meeting the daily Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations of 3 servings of low-fat and fat free milk and milk products, 6 servings of fruits and vegetables, 3 servings of whole grains (identified as Food Groups to Encourage), and 60 minutes of physical activity.

Phase 2 is a critical phase for all participants. We congratulate everyone who has participated in the program and continued tracking their points for the first 6 weeks! Team members may need extra motivation from one another to keep participating through Phase 2 and make it through the holidays. SNA and NDC will continue providing tips and resources through the program tips, newsletters, and communications to help all teams and team members stay focused on the goals when there are extra activities and demands to limit time for physical activity and obstacles to eating a balanced, healthy diet. The most important thing to remember is that it is okay to enjoy holiday treats in moderation. Getting through the holidays and keeping up your current new behaviors may take a little extra effort but it is possible to do so while still having fun and making the most of the season.

Remember to use the resources available for all of your questions, including the official contest rules, frequently asked questions, program calendar, newsletters, links to resource websites, and more. Continue to visit the Eat Smart, Get Moving! Web site throughout the program. Regular tips and newsletters will be posted, focusing on nutrition and physical activity strategies to help motivate your team to work towards the target nutrition and physical activity behaviors.

The first incentives will be mailed in mid-December. The number of incentives that each team receives is based on the team’s information on November 7. Team leaders should review team contact information to be sure the total number of team members and address information is correct.

Keep up the good work! Phase 2 is 7 weeks long. Have a happy holiday season!

Don't Forget! Keep your team's information up to date!
